Tokyo Global Financial Center


■ Overview

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is advancing efforts to transform Tokyo into a global business center that attracts human resources, capital, and information from around the world, with the aim of realizing the “Tokyo Global Financial Center,” which aligns with Wall Street in New York and The City in London.

■ Task Force Meetings

To discuss how to realize the Tokyo Global Financial Center, the TMG established a task force in 2014 and convened three meetings in May, June and July. People from the financial sector, as well as TMG officials, share their ideas and suggestions.

■ Release of Initiatives

On July 11, 2014, the TMG unveiled the “Initiatives for the Tokyo Global Financial Center,” which was formulated based on discussions at the task force meetings.

■ Tokyo Global Financial Center Promotion Council

The Tokyo Global Financial Center Promotion Council was set up to strengthen collaboration for the smooth implementation of the initiatives, as well as to explore solutions to the identified challenges. 

First Meeting of Promotion Council

The first meeting was held on September 1, 2014, with 27 participants from the public and private sectors.

Second Meeting of Promotion Council

The second meeting was held on June 29, 2015, with 28 participants from the public and private sectors.

  ・Subcommittee for Vitalizing Centers for Interaction

As decided at the first meeting of the promotion council, a subcommittee for “vitalizing centers for interaction” was launched, and three meetings have been held so far, attended by some 100 people from 40 organizations each time.

Establishment of the permanent secretariat for the International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR)

In February 2016, TMG released a Statement (click here for the statement) on welcoming the decision by the Financial Services Agency and the Certified Public Accountants and Auditing Oversight Board on Japan's bid to bring the permanent secretariat for the IFIAR.

The IFIAR decided to establish the permanent secretariat in Tokyo at the 2016 annual meeting.
